YIC: D 27 of 30 The God Of All Comfort

A cancer survivor has an amazing ability to speak encouraging words to someone going through the same battle that she once did. Have you ever been encouraged by someone who has gone through the same thing you have? Have you ever been the encourager?

When we are afflicted and experience a difficult time, we are given an opportunity to comfort others with the same comfort we have received from God. This is one of the many reasons we experience affliction in our life: to comfort others.

God will take care of you in your time of need, and his comfort for you is intended to be passed on to others. In the words of the apostle Paul, "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ" (Gal. 6:2).

Read 2 Corinthians 1:3-7

Why does God comfort us in our affliction?

Is there anyone in your life who is experiencing an affliction similar to one you have experienced? How can you comfort that person?

Prayer

Thank God for the grace you've experienced in suffering. Ask for His help in leading you to comfort those experiencing similar affliction.

II Corinthians 1:3-7 NKJV

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ.
6 Now if we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effective for enduring the same sufferings which we also suffer. Or if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.
7 And our hope for you is steadfast, because we know that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so also you will partake of the consolation.

  1. I oftentimes lend my ears to friends who just needs some to listen or even when someone needs advice. This lesson talks about how we as Christians are to lend our experiance to those who are suffering in the present and give them comfort. I know what its like to suffer, believe me, but I also know God is with me, I know Jesus is here with me all the time. I don't mean suffering just physicaly but emotionally as well. Remember back to a time, like we all have had, when you have lost a friend or relative to death, a bad break up or a life long friend to a disagreement. When you would tell people the first thing they said was "I'm sorry, I know how that feels" and you just wanted to punch them in the face because they had no clue simply because "they are not me, they didn't have this happen to them so they don't know how I feel" . In fact that is partially true, but
