Which food, when you eat it, instantly transports you to childhood?

I know it doesnt sound ideal, but I grew up with a mom that was raised not long after the depression. We wasnt rich but we wasnt not poor either, about 90% of my parents earnings went back into our family business.

Every morning, mostly in winter but also on other cold days. After waking up and getting dressed, I was handed a large cup usually that was filled with a drink of liquid corn meal mush. It was usually mom that would make it and was cooked with a bit of bacon grease or butter and sugar, then added milk to thin it out and cool it enough to drink during the wait for the bus. Having mush always takes me back to the times of those cold mornings of holding my mush in one hand, a cup of coffee in the other and heavy backpack on my back while waiting in the cold just before daylight for the bus.

I still eat mush every now and again and always use butter and sugar instead of the bacon grease. My wife was recently introduced to it by me one morning and she couldnt believe she hadnt had it before.. lol

Today I did lawn mowing, even though it was using a riding lawn mower, it still took 2 hours and was very hot. The heat will always take the energy right out of you and this year it seems to be doing that a lot easier to me. I didnt get to weed eat much because my trimmer spool ran out and will be getting more like in the next couple days and then will need to go back and weed eat. Either way the lawn still looks good.

Before I start this post, I wanted to share this with anyone that would be interested.

Yard Ninjas!! What are they? The little guys that do regular acrobatics, parkour and sounds like they are filming an old kung-fu movie on my roof every morning. They tend to use my porch roof as a spring board to launch themselves into a nearby tree. Yes, I’m talking about squirrels aka tree rats. They have been eating the crap out of the ripe mulberries that became ripe way early this year. We haven’t had them here on the property as far back as i can remember, so was glad to see them this year. I noticed 1 or 2 last year but we now have several families of them. Just an observation the last few days.

Working towards moving over to a wordpress platform and will still be posting here as well, but you can follow me over to the new blog as i figure it all out. The big reason why im moving over that way is because i have been moving away from google.
